Frequently Asked Questions

How will single stream recycling affect me?

  • Beginning January 1, 2010, the City of Neenah changed to a single stream recycling system.  Single stream refers to a new system that takes the two recycling “streams” -- mixed paper and commingled containers (aluminum, tin, plastic, glass) -- and puts them together in one bin.
  • Single stream does NOT mean regular trash is mixed with your recyclables, only that your paper, cardboard and commingled aluminum, tin, plastic and glass may be mixed together.
  • Cardboard (corrugated) must be cut down and placed in your single stream recycling container.
  • Your recyclables will be collected weekly, the same day as your regular garbage pick-up.  All recyclables, (i.e., glass, tin, aluminum, paper, cardboard) can be commingled in one container.
  • NO MORE BLUE BAGS!  Any remaining blue bags you may have after January 1, 2010, can be used for regular garbage.
  • Your 2010 Recycling and Refuse Guide will contain two recycling stickers to place on a container(s) that meets your needs.  Only one sticker per container.  More than one recyclables’ container is allowed.
  • Approved containers can be up to 35 gallons (metal or plastic) with handles and removable covers (no homemade containers).  When filled, the containers must weigh less than 50 pounds.

Will the Tullar Road Drop Off Site be open on Saturday mornings this summer?
The Tullar Road Drop Off Site, located at 1495 Tullar Road, will be open for Neenah residents on Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from May 1 through October 30, 2010.

How can I get rid of my yard waste?
Weekly curb side yard waste pick up begins April 26 and runs to May 21, 2010. Pick up is usually the day after your regular garbage day. All yard waste must be in 35 gallon garbage cans with handles, bushel baskets, or smaller containers which weigh less than 50 pounds each. Biodegradable paper bags (30 gallon) may be used.

Hedge trimmings, garden debris, and fine brush should be placed loosely in cans or baskets not to exceed 35 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight or in 30 gallon biodegradable paper bags. Small amounts of brush should be bundled, 2 feet in diameter by 4 feet long and tied with heavy cord. Large amounts of brush up to 3 inches in diameter should be kept long and placed adjacent to the street with the butt ends facing one direction for chipping.

A yard waste drop off site is available at the Tullar Road Garage at 1495 Tullar Road.

How do I dispose of batteries?
Automotive batteries can be dropped off at the Tullar Road or Cecil Street garage.  Place battery next to the oil drop off.

For household battery recycling, click here for information from the UW Extension Solid and Hazardous Waste Education Center.

What is the "Pair Up" program?
The City Services Task Force encourages Neenah residents to talk with their neighbor about placing your garbage cans together. This simple measure could save thousands of tax dollars by extending the life of our City garbage trucks. With 8,750 households, we could save more than 4,000 stops per week. Fewer stops also means fuel savings-as the starting and stopping of vehicles burns more fuel.

What day will my garbage be picked up?
A map of the City of Neenah's refuse and recycling collection routes is available on the Public Works Department page, just click on Refuse and Recycling Collection Routes.
