Winneconne Ave – Green Bay Rd Construction Project

The ongoing road construction at Winneconne Ave – Green Bay Rd is Phase 1 of a two-part project that will construct roundabouts at the intersections of Winneconne Ave - Green Bay Rd, Winneconne Ave - Lake St, Green Bay Rd - Fox Point Pl, and Green Bay Rd - Shopko Dr (see project overview).  Phase 1 includes the Winneconne – Green Bay and Winneconne – Lake roundabouts.  Phase 2, programmed for 2012, will add the Green Bay – Fox Point and Green Bay – Shopko roundabouts.

How Did We Get Here?

After several studies examining traffic flow and safety in the Winneconne Avenue – Green Bay Road area, the City chose to use roundabouts at the key intersections.  The Comparison Table shows a side-by-side comparison of the use of a traffic signal system versus the use of a series of roundabouts in this location.  The Roundabout and Traffic Signal Conceptual designs were the result of earlier traffic studies done on the project area.
