Field Training Officer (FTO)

The Field Training Program at the Neenah Police Department provides new officers with all of the knowledge required to perform the essential duties of a police officer. The field training officer (FTO) is one of the most important assignments patrol officers can undertake.

In order to become an FTO, an officer must have successfully completed his or her probation period and go through a selection process. An officer’s performance evaluations and skill set are expected to be at a high level before one can be considered for the FTO position, as an FTO must be able to provide accurate, relevant, and error free training to a new police officer.

While the FTO position is a challenging one, it can also be very rewarding, as a job well done often leads to lifelong friendships and mentoring between the trainer and trainee.
