The Department of Public Health employs a full-time Environmental Sanitarian who provides regular inspections of restaurants; temporary food stands at outdoor activities, lodging establishments, public swimming pools, retail grocery stores, bakeries and convenience stores. The City of Neenah Health Department Public Health is an "Agent of the State of Wisconsin" in delivering these services.
In addition to the food service inspection program relating to restaurants, lodging establishments and public swimming facilities, educational programs and services are also provided in consumer protection and environmental quality control. This may involve investigation and possible enforcement action in regard to problems related to industrial and residential indoor and outdoor air pollution, lead poisoning as it may effect residents or employees, indoor air contaminants and a variety of neighborhood nuisance situations. Environmental quality control services have a primary emphasis in the maintenance of a clean yard, clean air, a clean neighborhood and ultimately, a clean community.
Other services provided are consumer orientated. This includes inspections and assessments of lead based paints in residential properties, disseminates information on such subjects as, formaldehyde, radon, molds and other environmental concerns. The Environmental Sanitarian also investigates consumer calls about housing conditions, excess rubbish debris in yards and animals.
The Health Department is the place to go when a person wishes information on license required to open a food, lodging or recreational establishment. Outdoor activities where food is served to public requires a permit and inspection. There is no charge to non-profit organizations. Vendors for profit are required to pay a small minimal fee. Inspections are made on the day of the event. Automatic machines that vend perishable foods are licensed by the State of Wisconsin. The Neenah Environmental Sanitarian does inspections of these machines within the city limits of Neenah.
