A Message from Mayor Dean – Safer at Home Order Response from City

Posted on March 24, 2020 by Joni Heinz

A Message to the Citizens of Neenah,

Earlier today, Governor Evers issued Emergency Order #12 titled the “Safer at Home Order.” This order mandates that all non-essential business and operations cease in person operations effective tomorrow morning. The order provides, and encourages, all employers, including essential ones, to have workers work from home/remotely if possible. Additionally, this order prohibits all forms of travel except for travel that is deemed essential.

Based on this order, starting tomorrow morning City Hall will be closed to both the public and to non-essential employees. It is important to note that while the building itself will be closed, City staff will continue to work remotely to take care of citizen needs. All departments will be available by phone, email, or USPS. For a complete list of department contact information visit the City’s website:

Additionally, because the Governor has banned all non-essential travel, starting tomorrow (Wednesday) in person early-voting will be temporarily suspended through Friday March 27, 2020 at City Hall. We will reassess on Friday what next week’s schedule will be.

Residents should be encouraged to go to to register to receive an absentee ballot by mail to ensure that their voice is heard in this election. We will continue to evaluate the situation and update residents if and when in-person early voting will be available again before Election Day.

During this time, essential governmental functions will continue to happen as usual. The City of Neenah has determined that those functions include the following:

Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Building Inspections, Courts, Trash and Sanitary Pick-up, All Utility Functions, Clerk’s Office (only for processing absentee ballots), Certain Public Works Projects, and those functions that are required to process payroll and employee benefits, preserve the condition of City equipment, and ensure security.

As everyone knows, this is an unprecedented time and the safety of City residents and staff is my top priority.

Any questions please feel free to contact me anytime. Cell Phone 920-450-3058

As the situation changes rapidly more information will be available soon. Please follow the guidelines and stay healthy and safe.

Mayor Dean R. Kaufert
