Step inside your local government for a behind-the-scenes look at the responsibilities, procedures, and partnerships that drive city services. From council meetings to emergency response, budgeting to infrastructure. Become familiar with the people, processes, and partnerships shaping daily life in Neenah.

What You’ll Gain from the Neenah Citizens Academy:

  • Gain a clear understanding of how Neenah’s local government functions – including the roles of the Mayor, City Council, and individual departments, as well as how policies and decisions move from concept to implementation.
  • Learn practical ways to engage and participate in local government – from attending Council meetings and joining boards/commissions to submitting public records requests and interacting with elected officials.
  • Experience real-world examples of local government in action – through case studies, department tours, hands-on activities, and stories of community impact, showing how residents can make a tangible difference in their neighborhoods.
  • Build civic awareness and connection – developing the confidence and knowledge to understand the city’s operations, collaborate with departments, and take an active role in shaping community outcomes.
  • Develop tools for ongoing civic participation and learning – including notebooks for reflection, question logs, and access to resources like the GIS portal.
 

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older
  • Live or work in the City of Neenah
  • Sign liability waiver
