City of Neenah Receives Preliminary State Funding Approval for Lead Service Line Replacement

Posted:

The City of Neenah acknowledges Governor Tony Evers’ and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ announcement of more than $102 million in statewide funding to support lead service line replacement projects.

As part of the announcement, the City of Neenah is preliminarily approved to receive more than $1.9 million through Wisconsin’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program. The funding is expected to support the replacement of approximately 249 private lead service lines in qualifying low-income census tracts within the City of Neenah.

The preliminary funding package includes $1,451,363 in principal forgiveness, which does not need to be repaid, and $483,788 available for low-interest loans.

“This preliminary funding represents an important opportunity to continue protecting public health and investing in Neenah’s water infrastructure,” said Neenah Mayor Brian Borchardt. “We appreciate Governor Evers, the Wisconsin DNR, and our federal partners for recognizing the importance of lead service line replacement. Safe, reliable drinking water is essential for every resident, and this support could help us make meaningful progress for families in our community.”

The Lead Service Line Replacement Program is administered through the Wisconsin DNR’s Safe Drinking Water Loan Program and is supported by federal funding made available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

City staff will review the program requirements, funding conditions, project eligibility criteria, and implementation timeline before finalizing next steps. Additional information for affected property owners and residents—including project areas, eligibility, anticipated schedules, and participation requirements—will be shared as details become available.

Residents with questions are encouraged to monitor the City of Neenah’s website and official communication channels for future updates on this important initiative.
