School Resource Officers (SRO)

The Neenah Joint School District and the Neenah Police Department have a wonderful collaboration, keeping one goal in mind – keeping staff and students safe.

One School Resource Officer (SRO) is responsible for the eight Neenah Joint School District elementary schools and one SRO is responsible for the Neenah Middle School.  Because the Neenah High School moved outside of the City of Neenah, it is no longer a part of the Neenah Police Department’s jurisdiction.  There is one SRO from the Fox Crossing Police Department that is responsible for the high school.

The SRO’s duties include the following:

  • De-escalate incidents that could lead to violence
  • Build relationships with students and staff
  • Investigate crimes on schools grounds and those reported by students off school grounds.
  • Intervene on threats to school safety.
  • Maintain school safety plans.
  • Participate in suspension and expulsion hearings.

The SRO’s also attend pre- scheduled events, such as sporting events, dances, parades or conferences.

WI SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT PROGRAM

WI SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT was created by the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of School Safety (OSS) and the SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT Resource Center.  It is a comprehensive, one-stop place to turn with important concerns, offering a Threat Reporting System, Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management, Critical Incident Response and General School Safety Guidance. Students, parents, school staff, or any community members can submit a school safety concern or threat via a website, mobile phone application, or toll-free number. Resource center staff work around-the-clock to respond to tips and to deploy a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators, law enforcement, and counselors.
