Crisis Negotiation

The Neenah Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team follows the FBI’s crisis negotiation model. We have an 8-person team that consists of both officers and civilian staff. The team trains quarterly in techniques used nationwide. In this day and age of law enforcement, there is an emphasis on resolving incidents with the least amount of force possible.

Crisis negotiation has been described as one of law enforcement’s most effective tools. The goal of any crisis negotiation team is to deescalate volatile situations and bring a peaceful resolution by changing the behavior of the person in crisis. When people are in crisis, they often act on emotions and can have a hard time thinking rationally. Highly skilled negotiators are more important than ever before. The skills used by our negotiation team also carry into the calls our officers face daily.
