Snow Emergency Info
Any declared snow emergency will be noted on the City of Neenah’s main webpage and dispersed through local media outlets. Any questions or concerns, contact the Public Works Department at (920)886-6240.
Hydrants
In the event of a fire emergency during the winter months, could the fire department find the hydrant near your home? The City encourages all residents to “adopt” the fire hydrant near their home and keep snow shoveled away from the hydrant during the winter months. Make certain your hydrant is visible from the street and clear of snow so firefighters can easily connect a hose. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sidewalks/Streets
According to Municipal Code 14-3(b), the owner/occupant of a lot abutting the sidewalk within the City is responsible for clearing the sidewalk of snow and ice within 24 hours of the cessation of any snowstorm. Failure to remove snow or ice from the sidewalk will result in the City completing the work and the owner facing a potential forfeiture for violating the ordinance and paying the cost of removal. The Public Works Department will attempt to contact the owner of the property where the snow or ice needs removal, however, according to Municipal Code, the City does not need to contact the property owner prior to cleaning the sidewalks.
If ice forms that cannot be removed, the owner/occupant is responsible to keep the sidewalk sprinkled with material that will reduce the risk to pedestrians of slipping and falling.
The owner/occupant is also responsible for snow and ice removal from mid-block crosswalks, corner crosswalks and ramps that abut their lot.
Blowing or plowing snow onto City streets is in violation of Municipal Code 14-3(a). Doing so may result in unsafe and icy streets. Depositing snow in the street could result a potential forfeiture for violating the ordinance of $109 for a first offense.
The Public Works Department will make every effort to plow the streets at night or when traffic is at a minimum. Plowing operations are much safer and more efficient then. This is why no overnight on-street parking is permitted from November 1 to April 1. All vehicles must be off the streets from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. or they will be ticketed and towed.
During heavy or long lasting snowfalls, we may need to plow your street more than once to clean it completely. Unfortunately this may result in the snowplow filling your driveway with snow after you have already opened it.
