About – Planning & Zoning

Here in Neenah WI, current planning addresses short-term growth and development issues through review and recommendations of all current planning applications (i.e., rezoning, special use, site plan, subdivisions) and questions relating to the Zoning Code.

Plan Commission: The City of Neenah Plan Commission is comprised of 8 members. The Mayor serves as the Chairperson, while the other positions are filled by the Director of Public Works, the Chairman of the Park and Rec Commission, one Alderman, a member of the Board of Education, and three appointed city residents. The Commission is charged with preperation of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, review of land use applications such as requests for master plan approvals, rezonings, special use permits, site plans, subdivisions, vacations and annexations. With regards to most site plans the Commission takes final action. On other applications, it typically makes a recommendation to City Council. The Commission meets on the Tuesday of the week prior to each council meeting at 4:15pm in Council Chambers. The Community Development Department staff provides support for the Planning Commission including staff reports and administrative management of cases.

Board of [Zoning] Appeals: The Board of Appeals consists of 5 members appointed by the Mayor, each having a 3-year term. The Board hears and decides appeals of decisions of determinations made by the Community Development staff in the enforcement of the Zoning Code. The Board may authorize variances to the Zoning Code in specific cases which meet special conditions. Meetings of the Board are on call as applications are made. Community Development staff prepares all correspondence for the board and presents staff findings and recommendations for each variance requested.
